"Courage is a hard thing to figure."

Blog 3 :

Coming to the second tenet. This time we watched "The Blind Side" starring America's sweetheart Sandra Bullock. But our inspiration was drawn from Big Mike or Michael Oher who was born in the "projects". He chose to close his eyes to all the bad things around him - he could have ended up like his peers as a part of a gang, but he chose to live his life with courage and honor.

And the movie did an excellent job of talking about courage through a poem written by celebrated poet Alfred, Lord Tennyson. We really did not understand the poem or how it relates to courage (we are not fans of American football and don't know the greatness of LSU's Death Valley stadium), but we loved what Big Mike had to say about courage and honor.

"Courage is a hard thing to figure. You can have courage based on a dumb idea or a mistake, but you are not supposed to question adults or your coach or your teacher because they make the rules. Maybe they know best or maybe they don’t. It all depends on who you are, where you come from ... that's why courage is tricky. Should you always do what others tell you to do. Sometimes you might not even know why you are doing something. I mean, any fool can have courage. But honor, that's the real reason why you do something, or you don’t. It’s who you are and maybe who you want to be. If you die trying for something important, then you have both honor and courage. And that's pretty good. That's what the writer was saying - that you should hope for courage and try for honor. And maybe even pray that the people telling you what to do have some too."

Now, there can be no greater courage than to take the responsibility of someone's life in your hands - and no greater honor. Especially those of the tiniest babies - the preemies. So, to all the medical professionals, the doctors, the nurses, the support system - we salute you. For us, given what you did for us - your Doctorverse is bigger than the MCU. For your courage and your honor, we will forever remain indebted to you. You could have chosen any other profession. Something far more easier. But you chose to take the Hippocratic oath and labor on. Juggle giant responsibilities. Facing flak in case of failure while giving the credit to Gods and miracles in case of success. So here's to you. Thank you!
